The face that started it all

The face that started it all

Every face I have ever done starts from the same place. Not a product, not a trend, but a question: what does this person look like on their best day? The look that became Lijé started with my own answer to that question, on my own face, years before I had a brand at all.

It was a bare, dewy base, a warm wash of colour on the eye that did not try too hard, and a lip that looked like it had always been that colour. Clients kept asking for “the Nikki face” long before I had a name for it. So I gave it one, and then I built a kit around it.

What people do not see, sitting in the chair, is the editing. For every product that made it into my kit, a dozen did not. Not because they were bad, but because they were not honest. Skin that photographs like skin. Colour that reads on camera and in daylight. Nothing that needed forgiveness under a ring light.

“If it is good enough for the work I do, it should be good enough for the woman doing it herself.”

The three steps I never skip

A skin that is prepped and left alone to breathe before a single product goes on. Colour placed with a light hand and built, never applied heavy and blended back. And the one step most people skip entirely, which is setting the whole face once and then doing nothing else to it.

Nearly twenty years behind the chair taught me that restraint reads as confidence. The face that started it all was never about more. It was about knowing exactly what to leave out.
